Six steps to applying

There are six main steps to follow and we explain each one on this site. Below is an overview: click on the links at the end of each paragraph to find out more.

Step 1: Choosing courses

Step 1: Choosing courses

Your students should think carefully about the course they'd like to study at a conservatoire. They need to choose their courses for the right reasons and do plenty of research before deciding where to go.

Step 2: Applying

Step 2: Applying

Your students can apply for courses using our online application system, Apply. We explain each section of the application and there's help text in Apply to answer their questions. Your students send their completed applications to us online and we send it to the conservatoires they choose. If we receive an application by 1 October (midnight UK time), it is 'on time' and all the applicant's chosen conservatoires will consider them.

Step 3: Auditions and offers

Step 3: Audition and offers

Your students can check if they've been invited to an audition on our online tracking system, Track, which shows their choices and any decisions made by the conservatoires. They will also be notified of any offers they receive on Track.

Step 4: Results

Step 4: Results

If your students are waiting for results, they need to be prepared for what happens next. They should check Track to see if they're accepted on their chosen course. We receive some exam results and send them to the conservatoires. For others, your students will need to send results direct to the conservatoires.

Step 5: Next steps

Step 5: Next steps

If your students are accepted, they will receive a letter from us that explains what happens next. If they receive different grades than expected or change their minds, there are other options they may want to consider.

Step 6: Starting at a conservatoire

Step 6: Starting at a conservatoire

Your students need to make sure they have everything ready, such as accommodation, finances, travel arrangements, books, music and equipment required for their course. They should see what the students' union at their conservatoire has prepared for new students and find out what support is available while they're studying.
