Fraud

Step 2: Applying

We have a verification unit working to identify fraudulent applications. Any attempt by applicants to provide false or misleading information could lead to their application being cancelled. Our verification unit also screens all personal statements for plagiarism.

Detecting fraud

Please make applicants aware of the following information:

  • We have a verification unit working to identify fraudulent applications. Any attempt by applicants to provide false or misleading information could lead to their application being cancelled. We have the right to cancel an application without refunding the application fee.
  • If we, or a conservatoire, have reason to believe that the applicant or their referee has left out any information or given false or misleading information, we may take any necessary steps to check whether it is accurate or complete. If you have any reason to believe that information we have about the applicant is not accurate or complete, you must tell us.
  • We, and the conservatoires, may, at any time, ask the applicant, their referee or their employer to provide more information about the application (for example, proof of identity, immigration status, qualifications or employment history). If we do not receive this information by a set date, or if the information is not satisfactory, we can cancel the application without refunding the application fee.
  • We will undertake checks to verify that the personal statement is the applicant's own work. If the personal statement appears to have been copied from another source we will inform the conservatoires to which the applicant has applied. They can then take the action they consider appropriate.
