Applicants will normally need to have auditions before the conservatoires can make their decisions. This usually involves giving a live audition at the conservatoire, but in some cases, applicants are allowed to send in recordings or videos. Some conservatoires have audition centres in other countries to cater for international applicants.
The audition process will vary between conservatoires. When conservatoires invite applicants to audition they will provide advice on what the audition will include and what kind of pieces they should prepare. Auditions normally include two or more contrasting pieces that demonstrate the applicant's technique and musicality. Applicants may be asked to play scales, sight read, or take an aural test, all of which help to demonstrate their technical abilities. The audition may also include an interview.
For information about audition dates, applicants should visit the conservatoires' websites, or contact them directly.
