Disabilities, special needs and medical conditions

Step 1: Choosing courses

Conservatoires welcome applications from people with disabilities, special needs or medical conditions, and try to provide as much support as possible. Applicants may be entitled to extra financial support or help with care. UK students may be eligible for Disabled Students' Allowances (DSAs). Further Information is available from Skill: National Bureau for Students with Disabilities on their website.

Applicants who need support in their studies, accommodation or daily living should contact their chosen conservatoires, who will want to know:

  • the course in which the applicant is interested
  • the nature and extent of the disability, special need or medical condition
  • any arrangements that the applicant has needed, or found helpful, in the past.

Conservatoires will consider the application on the same academic criteria as any other, and any medical information will remain confidential.

If a conservatoire cannot meet the applicant's needs, the applicant can ask for an alternative choice of course.
