What are Entry Profiles?

Step 1: Choosing courses

Entry Profiles help applicants decide which conservatoires and which courses to apply to. Many courses with the same title are actually very different in terms of content and study methods, so Entry Profiles will help applicants decide which will suit them best.

Entry Profiles provide details about courses and about the conservatoire offering each course, including entry requirements, selection criteria and admissions policies. This essential information will enable your students to make fully informed choices about applying for entry to conservatoire education.

Entry Profiles are invaluable guidance tools for teachers and careers advisers, as well as for applicants and potential applicants. They are compiled by staff at the conservatoires, who understand the kind of detail students need to know about their courses before they apply, and who can explain what they are looking for in their applicants.

What are Entry Profiles for?

  • To provide important information for anyone interested in applying for entry to a conservatoire course.

  • To help students imagine what it would be like to be a student at that conservatoire.

  • To inform students what the entry qualifications are for each course, both practical and academic.

  • To provide information about the course in detail - what is the content of the course? How does this course differ from other similar courses? The information supplied in the Entry Profile should help students find out exactly what and how they would be studying, if they were offered a place on that course.

  • To provide information about the conservatoire offering the course. Where is it? How far away from home is it? What facilities does it have? What kind of accommodation is available and to whom?

  • To highlight what interests, personal qualities, or relevant experience the admissions staff might be looking for in applicants - information that will help students choose the course which is right for them.

  • To explain the conservatoire's admission policy and selection procedures, including (where applicable) information about interviews or auditions.

  • To provide information about fees, bursaries or scholarships.

How do I find Entry Profiles on the web?

  • Entry Profiles can be found in the CUKAS Course Search>>

  • When your students find a course that interests them (by searching for a particular instrument, course type or for courses at a particular conservatoire), look for the E P icon symbol after the course title on the results page. If the symbol is present, it means that the course has a full Entry Profile.

  • Courses without the E P icon symbol have details about qualifications, but no information about the course itself.

  • The Entry Profile can be viewd by clicking on the course title, which will go to the main course information page. The Entry Profile link is below the information required to complete the application.

The Entry Profiles are subject to a process of continuous development and updating. To help us with this task, we welcome your comments. Please send them to coursesdata@ucas.ac.uk.

Emails about the application process will not receive a response - please check our FAQs or contact us.
