Qualifications

Step 2: Applying

To help the conservatoires consider your application it is important that all the details of your qualifications are entered correctly and in full. All qualifications must be entered, even if you received an unsuccessful grade, if you are still waiting to take the final exams or if you are waiting for the results. If you don't enter details of all your qualifications we may cancel your application.

You must enter:

  • the full details of all the qualifications you have already achieved

AND ALSO

  • the details of all qualifications for which you are currently studying
  • the details of all qualifications for which you are currently awaiting results.

You should include:piano

  • examinations taken when you left school
  • examinations taken when you applied for further or higher education
  • vocational examinations
  • professional qualifications or awards
  • English proficiency tests.

International Applicants

If your first language is not English:

  1. You should give full details of all your qualifications, including exams you took when you left school, exams you took to get into higher education, vocational exams and any other qualifications or awards. Please do not try to give a UK equivalent.
  2. Please give details of any English proficiency tests, such as IELTS or TOEFL, that you have taken or will be taking before you start your university course; and
  3. please include in your personal statement details of any qualifications that were taught wholly or partly in English.

Completed and certificated qualifications

You must include all qualifications and subjects that have been completed and certificated (also known as 'claimed' or 'cashed in'), including any GCE AS which are being taken forward to A level. This includes subjects where you are re-sitting a unit or module to improve your A level grade. However subjects which have not been certificated, or for which certification has been declined, cannot be included, nor can subjects or courses which have not been completed. It is not a requirement to enter details of individual units or modules that form part of the overall qualification.

You may have been issued with a transcript or other evidence of the areas covered in a course of study, but have no other formal certification. You and your referees can comment on this in your personal statement or in the reference. However you and your advisers may decide that it would be preferable for a copy to be sent directly to the Admissions Office at each of the conservatoires to whom you are applying. It should be sent only after your application has been processed by CUKAS, and you should quote your Personal ID.

Not yet completed or certificated qualifications ('Pending results')

You must enter all qualifications for which you are currently studying as well as all those for which you are awaiting results. Do not include details of individual units or modules forming part of an overall qualification. For applicants waiting on results for a wide range of UK- and Irish-based qualifications we are able to match the details you enter in your application with the results received from the awarding organisations (the examination boards) which set and mark your papers. This allows us to send your results automatically to the conservatoire(s) where you are holding an offer of a place. View the list of results we will match on your behalf and forward to the conservatoires>>

Resits: If you are resitting a qualification you need to enter it twice: once as a completed qualification with the grade achieved and once as a qualification with the result 'Pending'.

If we cannot match the information you have given us about pending results to the details subsequently received from the awarding organisations, then there will be a delay in sending your results to the conservatoires. This will delay confirmation (or otherwise) of your place. There is also the risk that applications containing qualifications that cannot be checked against results may be considered fraudulent, and accordingly may be cancelled.

Please note that you are responsible for telling your chosen conservatoires about results relating to all other qualifications, both UK and international. If your first language is not English you should send the results of any English proficiency tests such as IELTS, TOEFL, etc, direct to the conservatoires where you are holding an offer of a place.

Your highest level of qualification (new question for 2011 entry)

You'll be asked to select the highest level of qualification you will have before you start your course. This doesn't include the course you're applying to - it's just about the qualifications that you'll complete before starting the course. There are three options available in a drop-down list:

  • Honours degree level or above, eg bachelor's degree with honours, master's degree, PhD.
  • Below honours degree level, eg AS and A level, Scottish Higher and Advanced Higher, GCSE, Irish Leaving Certificate, International Baccalaureate.
  • No formal qualifications: this means that you will not have received any formal and certificated qualifications before you start a higher education course.

If you indicate that you do have qualifications, you must enter these in the qualifications section.

If you do not have any formal qualifications, in your personal statement you should try to give evidence of other qualifications, skills or experience which may help your application.

Scottish Candidate Number

If you are taking, or have taken, Scottish qualifications, enter your Scottish Candidate Number (SCN) in the box. This can be obtained from the certificate or from your school or college. If you are at a school or college, we match your details with those held by the Scottish Qualifications Authority. We can then send your examination results to the conservatoires where you are holding offers.

BTEC Registration Number

If you are taking, or have taken, a BTEC National Diploma, Certificate or Award, or a Higher National Diploma or Certificate, enter your BTEC Registration Number. If you have more than one, please enter the most recent number. Ask your school or college if you do not know the number

The conservatoires can ask you to submit original certificates to support the qualifications listed in your application. This may be done at any stage during the application process, or at enrolment, and applications may be cancelled or places withdrawn if the original certificates are not produced within the time specified, if the certificates provided do not match the qualifications claimed, or if the certificates are found to be forged.
