What will I have to do at my audition?

Each conservatoire will conduct auditions in a slightly different way. Advice on what your audition(s) will include and, if you are a performer, what kind of pieces you should prepare will be provided by the conservatoire(s) once you have been invited to audition. In general, performance auditions normally include two or more contrasting pieces or texts that demonstrate your technique and talent. Musicians may be asked to play/sing scales, read/sing at sight, and/or take an aural test, all of which help to demonstrate your technical abilities. The audition may also include an interview.

Composers and applicants in other non-performance areas are usually asked to submit a portfolio, video or other evidence of practical ability in place of an audition. They may also be invited to an interview. The conservatoires will specify what is required depending on your specialist area.
