Understand the commonly used words and phrases

Below is a list of commonly used words and phrases, together with a summary of their meanings.

Apply: the online application system for applying to CUKAS courses. Apply and its supporting information can be accessed here.

Audition pending (AP): conservatoires send audition pending (AP) decisions if you have been invited to audition. They send the audition date, time and payment status with the AP decision.

Confirmation: when conditional offers that you have accepted become unconditional or are declined. Confirmation is dependent on your qualification/exam results.

Deferral: holding an offer until the following year.

Entry Profiles: comprehensive information about individual courses and institutions, including statistics and entry requirements. Entry Profiles are found on Course Search.

Guaranteed conditional (GC) offer: the conservatoire has made the offer subject to you meeting certain conditions, usually examination results. Unless your application and/or qualifications are subesquently shown to be fraudulent, the offer is binding upon the conservatoire if you accept the offer and meet the conditions .

Guaranteed unconditional (GU) offer: the conservatoire is satisfied, from the information you have given, that you have already met the conditions for entry. Unless your application and/or qualifications are subsequently shown to be fraudulent, a guaranteed unconditional offer is binding upon the conservatoire.

Personal ID: a 10-digit individual number assigned to you when you register to use Apply. The number is displayed in the format 123-456-7890.

Point of entry: your year of entry to the course, for example, 2 refers to the second year of the course.

Reserve conditional (VC) offer: the conservatoire has offered a place on its reserve list subject to you meeting certain conditions, usually examination results. In order to be considered for a guaranteed place (should one become available) you need to accept the offer and meet the conditions of the offer. Find out more about reserve offers.

Reserve unconditional (VU) offer: the conservatoire is satisfied, from the information you have given, that you have already met the conditions for entry and have offered a place on their reserve list. Scheme Code: used in conjunction with your Personal ID to uniquely identify your application.

Track: a system where you can track the progress of your application online, add more choices (if you have made fewer than six choices), reply to any offers received, and make certain amendments, for example, change of address or email.

Unsuccessful (R): conservatoires make unsuccessful decisions if they do not want to offer you any type of place.

Withdrawal (W): either you or a conservatoire cancels a choice before a decision has been made - a reason will be included if the withdrawal was issued by a conservatoire.
